Aonix® Introduces AmeosTM and UML® Modeling for Safety-Critical Applications

Demo launches at Embedded World in Nürnberg, February 17-19

Nürnberg, Germany, February 16, 2004

Aonix®, an independent global company delivering complete solutions for safety- and mission-critical applications, announced that two real-time modeling solutions have been integrated into their Ameos modeling environment at the Embedded World in Nürnberg. Ameos, an UML® modeling environment, now offers support for the Ravenscar Profile and OMOS, an object-oriented modeling concept for Electronic Control Units (ECU). Both solutions have been proven in safety- and mission-critical real-time projects in industries such as automotive, transportation and avionics.

Aonix has always strongly supported the Ravenscar Profile which was adopted at the Eight International Real-Time Ada Workshop (IRTAW-8) in Ravenscar, UK. The standard accommodates certification requirements for high-integrity, safety-critical real-time systems. Aonix offers ObjectAda Real-Time RAVENTM, which employs a small and very fast real-time, DO-178B certified kernel for safety critical applications. The predefined UML 2.0 Ravenscar profile in Ameos adds modelings capabilities and transformation rules that target Raven-based development projects.

OMOS, originally developed by Bosch, is a modeling concept for ECUs. OMOS takes advantage of object-oriented techniques while avoiding their typical run-time and memory requirements. Well-defined transformation rules use C as the target language and offer a description of how to model and form variants of software systems for various target implementations.

Both templates have been integrated into Ameos, Aonix' next-generation modeling tool. Ameos provides UML 2.0 profile support and MDA-based model transformation. The Ameos Profile Editor allows stereotypes and tagged values to be defined and assigned to model elements of the UML Metamodel, ensuring that profiles are well-designed, documented and easy to use for the entire project team. This powerful approach extends standard UML, easing the design process for real-time developers.

Ameos provides a transformation engine based on OMG™'s Model Driven Architecture. Predefined templates describe, how the models are mapped to the target environment. Using this approach, developers can more easily target various programming languages like Java, C/C++ and Ada and to fulfill safety critical standards such as DO-178B, EN 50128, and IEC 61508.

"Our predefined RAVEN and OMOS profiles offer mission- and safety-critical developers some powerful development tools," noted Michael Benkel, Aonix Director Product Marketing. "For applications involving rigorous certification processes, developers gain the better modeling capability and model transformation of the UML profiles-all pretailored to real-time mission- and safety-critical processes.

Ameos' packaging targets specific user groups like Modeler, Analyst and Developer. These solutions are available immediately on Windows and Linux platforms. A Sun Solaris version will follow shortly.
